Tip My Trip (TMT) app and website
Effective Date: 23 July 2026 · Last Updated: 25 August 2026
Tip My Trip (“TMT”, “we”, “us”) operates the TMT mobile app and the tipmytrip.co.in website, and is the data controller of your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Please read it before using the app or website.
Information we collect
- Account information. You sign in with Google. We receive your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account. We do not see or store your Google password.
- Flights you track. The flights you add to My Flights (flight number, date and route), and — if you scan a boarding pass — the details encoded on it, such as passenger name, flight, seat and booking reference. Scanning happens on your device and is only saved when you confirm.
- Location. With your permission, we use your device location to find your nearest airport, show relevant flight boards, and detect when you are at the airport so we can show live terminal updates. Location is used only while you use the app — never in the background — and the app asks for permission at the moment a feature needs it. If you decline, you can simply select your airport manually.
- Photos and camera. Only when you use those features: the camera for scanning boarding passes or taking photos, and your photo library for choosing a profile picture or package images. We only receive the images you capture or select.
- Airport updates you contribute. Check-in, security, gate, baggage and exit confirmations and votes you submit while at the airport. These are aggregated and shown to other users in anonymised form (for example as wait-time estimates).
- Baggage-sharing details. If you use the baggage marketplace: trip details, package descriptions and photos, and messages exchanged with your matched traveller.
- Device and notifications. If you allow notifications, a push notification token, your platform (Android or iOS) and app version, so we can deliver flight alerts to your device.
- Google Calendar data. If you choose to connect your Google Calendar, we access your calendar events in read-only mode (using the
calendar.events.readonlyscope) to detect flight bookings. We read event titles, dates and locations to identify flights and suggest adding them to your My Flights tracker. We do not modify, delete or create any events in your calendar. Calendar data is processed on our server solely to extract flight information; we do not store raw calendar events beyond what is needed for flight detection, and you can disconnect your calendar at any time from the app settings, which revokes our access and deletes any stored calendar credentials. - Website. The tipmytrip.co.in website is informational. Our hosting provider records standard technical logs (such as IP address and pages requested). The contact page opens your own email app — we receive only what you choose to send.
How we use your information
- To provide the service: showing your tracked flights, live statuses, airport boards and progress updates.
- To personalise the experience, such as pre-selecting your nearest airport.
- To send push notifications about flights you track, if you enable them.
- To power crowd-sourced wait estimates from anonymised, aggregated user contributions.
- To operate the baggage-sharing marketplace, including matching, communication and dispute handling.
- To detect flight bookings in your Google Calendar (if connected) and suggest adding them to your flight tracker.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
How your information is shared
- With other users, only as needed by a feature: your airport contributions appear in anonymised, aggregated form; in the baggage marketplace, your matched traveller sees the details relevant to the transaction; a flight link you share contains only the flight number, date and route — never your personal information.
- With service providers that make the app work: Google (sign-in), our push-notification delivery service, flight-information and weather data providers, and our hosting providers.
- With authorities, if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
App permissions
The app requests notification permission when you first open it. All other permissions — location, camera and photos — are requested only at the moment a feature needs them, with the purpose shown, and every feature remains usable in a reduced form if you decline.
Google API Services — Limited Use disclosure
TMT’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We only use Google Calendar data to provide the flight-detection feature described above — identifying flight bookings in your calendar and letting you add them to your tracker.
- We do not use Google Calendar data for serving advertisements, including retargeting, personalised or interest-based advertising.
- We do not allow humans to read your Google Calendar data unless you give affirmative consent for specific content, it is necessary for security purposes (such as investigating abuse), it is necessary to comply with applicable law, or it is aggregated and anonymised for internal operations.
- We do not transfer Google Calendar data to third parties except as necessary to provide the flight-detection service, with your consent, or as required by law.
Security
Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and sign-in tokens are kept in your device’s secure storage. We maintain reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your data. However, no transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. Flights whose tracking has ended move to your history. You can remove tracked flights in the app at any time, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw permissions (such as location) at any time in your device settings. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
Children
TMT is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
